The Sand Worm

Some of the students in our class wrote stories for the Lucky Book Club Short Story Competition. This is Jack B.'s entry.
One day I was doing my homework in my room when a gigantic sand worm smashed through my floor. It ate my homework and went back through the hole with the dirt covering the hole behind it. When I tried to tell my mum and dad but they didn’t believe me.

That night in my bed I heard my parents screaming. I fled to their room. I jumped back when I opened the door. The sand worm was back! This time it took the roof off the house and went back down the hole.
My mum and dad quickly went to the police. Mum shouted, “A sand-worm smashed through my floor!”

The policeman looked shocked and said, “Well, o.k. We’ll find the sand-worm in the morning. It’s too dark now.” But... at that moment the building came down and the sand-worm’s head popped up. The sand-worm was back.
Everyone screamed and ran away. But one man wasn’t scared. He ran up to the sand-worm with something in his hand. I couldn’t tell what it was. He put the thing on. “It’s a baby!” he shouted.

Police started saying, “It’s lost.” I thought if I can just get the people to help me chase it back to the desert. I ran back to the police and said, “If we can chase the sand worm away with something big it might go away.”

So they looked and looked. “I found something!” shouted a voice. It was a little boy who had heard the conversation. He had found out in a book that sand-worms are afraid of bulldogs. So the police got one. They found a big hole that the sand-worm had left but just at that moment the sand-worm jumped up! As soon as the sand-worm saw the bull dog it jumped back through the concrete and was never to be seen again.

To Give Away - One Shark

I answered an advertisement in the paper for a friendly shark. I took it home and put it in my swimming pool. I invited Mr Deadman and my friends for a barbeque and a swim. On the count of three they all jumped in except for me. They all got gobbled up by my pet shark because he was hungry. I took it back because the shark was not a friendly shark at all.

Emily and Daniella's Rats

Emily and Daniella both made toy rats as their school holiday projects. Didn't they turn out well?

Space Poems

Mrs Kerrigan taught our class on Friday. We wrote really cool space poems and in the afternoon we made pictures to go with them.

Our School Gardens

We have great school gardens at Raumati South School. Jacob planted these radishes with Mrs Turner on the 3rd of March. He picked them yesterday. They didn't take very long to grow!

Our class is reading Mrs Frisby and Rats of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien. In the holidays some of students completed projects about the book. Otis made a diorama.

My Diorama by Otis
In my diorama it is comfortable for the rats because they have a bed to sleep in at night time. On the side of the bed there is a slide that is fun and it keeps him fit. There is a cover that keeps him warm when it is cold at night. There are five books that he loves to read. They are called The Happy Rat, The Star Wars Rat, The Hockey Rat, The Funny Rat and The Adventure Rat. He has a lamp that helps him read at night time. The photos make him happy when he looks at them because he loves them. He has a snack cupboard that he has his favourite food in. I hope you enjoy my diorama.

Jack made a diorama too. His is of the Library in the story. You can see a group of rats gathered around a meeting table and a shelf full of books against the wall.
